INTRODUCTION

The college aims at providing desirable behavioral changes in the students which are brought about by meaningful experiences within a climate of mutual respect and understanding. The course in the physical and biological sciences helps them to understand the scientific principles of nursing. The study of social and behavioral sciences help them to understand their clients with various socio economic background.

OBJECTIVES OF B. Sc. NURSING :

On completion of the four year B.Sc. Nursing program the graduate will be able to:

a. apply knowledge from physical, biological, and behavioral sciences, medicine including alternative systems and providing nursing care to individuals, families and communities.

b. demonstrate understanding of life style and other factors, which affect health of individuals and groups.

c. provide nursing care based on steps of nursing process in collaboration with the individuals and groups.

d. demonstrate critical thinking skill in making decisions in all situations in order to provide quality care.

e. utilize the latest trends and technology in providing health care.

f. provide promotive, preventive and restorative health services in line with the national health policies and programmes.

g. practice within the framework of code of ethics and professional conduct and acceptable standards of practice within the legal boundaries.

h. communicate effectively with individuals and groups, and members of the health team in order to promote effective interpersonal relationships and teamwork.

i. demonstrate skills in teaching to individuals and groups in clinical/community health settings.

j. participate effectively as members of the health team in health care delivery system.

k. demonstrate leadership and managerial skills in clinical/community health settings.

l. conduct need based research studies in various settings and utilize the research findings to improve the quality of care.

ADMISSION DETAILS:

Candidates would be admitted on the day of counseling. The selected candidates need to pay the fees and submit their original documents on the day of ADDMISSION/COUNSELING. failing which her selection will be treated as cancelled and seat will be offered to the next candidates on the merit/waiting list.

Ragging free environment :

As per the University Grants Commission Act, 1956, Ragging is strictly prohibited inside the campus.

Library:

Well furnished spacious library with adequate number of books and journals with all the 20 modern facilities including E- learning is available for the students within the campus.

Hostel:

Well furnished hostel and mess facilities are provided for the students within the campus.

DISCIPLINE OF THE STUDENTS:

1. Identity Card is mandatory during College and Clinical timings.

2. Rules and regulation in relation to students discipline will be enforced effectively to maintain discipline and to keep up the decorum of the College.

3. Students should abide by the rules and regulations of the College and hostel strictly.

4. Ragging or any other form of indiscipline will invite strict disciplinary action from the management.

5. The use of mobile phones in college and hospital is strictly prohibited.

6. For any kind of misbehavior by a student or group of students with staff or creating disturbances in classroom / college / hostel premises, strict disciplinary action will be taken. A student expelled on disciplinary grounds will not be readmitted to this college.

7. If any student found in use of liquor or narcotics on hospital duty or in institute premises, she will be suspended from the institute for a specific period or be expelled from the institution.

8. Possession of weapons, explosive and other objectionable material in institute/hostel will result in being expelled from the institution.

9. Breakage of the articles in the laboratory will be replaced by the student if it is due to her negligence.

10. Taking active part in politics will result in being expelled from the institution.

11. Student reporting for hospital duty or entering the institute premises in an scruffy appearance is liable for punishment.

GNM

Eligibility : 12th Pass, Minimum percentage 33% with Any Stream

Duration : 3 years + 6 month Clinical Training

 

 

PHILOSOPHY

Modern nursing is a dynamic, therapeutic and educative process in meeting the health needs of the individuals, the family and the community. Nursing is one of the health professions which functions in conjunction with other health care agencies and maintain desirable standards of health.
 
Indian Nursing Council believes in the concept of health as laid down by the W.H.O. i.e.,            
“Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.”
The International Council of Nurses states that the unique function of the nurse is to assist the individual, sick or well, in the performance of those activities contributing to health or its recovery that he would perform unaided if he had the necessary strength, will or knowledge.
 
The Council recognizes that the nature of nursing is such that a substantial portion of learning of the students is acquired in the clinical field of practice.
 
The Council believes that it has a responsibility in helping the students to develop pride in their profession besides keeping them abreast with current knowledge and professional trends for a successful career ahead.
 
Aims-
  • To prepare nurses with a sound educational program in nursing to enable them to function as efficient members of the health team, beginning with the competencies for first level positions in all kinds of health care setting.
     
  • To help nurses develop an ability to co-operate and co-ordinate with members of the health team in the prevention of disease, promotion of health and rehabilitation of the sick.
     
  • To serve as a base for further professional education and specialization in nursing.
     
  • To prepare nurses to keep pace with latest professional and technological developments and use these for providing nursing care services.
Objectives
The nurse on the completion of this course will be able to-
  • Demonstrate competency in providing in health care to individual, sick or well, using nursing process.
  • Assess the nursing need of clients from birth to death.
  • Plan and carry out appropriate action to meet nursing needs.
  • Provide effective nursing care for maintaining best possible level of health in all possible level.
  • Apply knowledge from the humanities, biological and behavioral sciences in functioning as a nurse.
  • Function effectively with members of the health team and community applying the knowledge of human relations and communication skills in her work.
  • Recognize the need for continuing education for professional development.
  • Assist in research  activities.
Eligibility Criteria
  1. Minimum and maximum age for admission will be 17 and 35 years respectively. For ANM / LHV, there is no age bar.
     
  2. Minimum education-
  • 10+2 class passed or its equivalent preferably with science (physics, chemistry and Biology) subjects with aggregate 45% marks.
  • Those who have cleared 10+2 vocational ANM course from the school recognized by Indian Nursing Council.
  • ANM training i.e. 10+11/2 years training should also have passed +2 or its equivalent examination.
  1. In addition to the above, admission procedure can be laid down by concerned State Nursing Council / Nursing
Examination Boards.
Duration of the Course-
The Diploma course in General Nursing and Midwifery shall be of three years and six months duration.
There should be a preliminary period of 12 weeks. During this time the student will attend the wards for observation and supervised practice not exceeding 16 hours per exemption for ANM / LHV / Female Health Workers.
Six months exemption in training shall be during the third year ( in midwifery) to those-
  • Who have undergone ANM training of 18 months or 2 years recognized by University.
  • LHV’s with 21/2years of training recognized by INC.
Training Period and Time Distribution
Duration of the course
The Diploma course in General Nursing and Midwifery shall be of three year and six months duration.

  • Six months exemption in training shall be given during the third year (in midwifery) to those:
Who have undergone ANM training of 18 months or 2 years recognized by INC.
  • LHV’s with 2 ½ years of training recognized by INC.
Therefore duration of training   shall be of 3 years.
Syllabus: Same as prescribed for GNM trainees in all three years and Internship period.

Note: Out of 52 weeks in one academic year, total of 6 weeks are deducted. 4 weeks vacation, one week preparatory leave and one week for examinations. Sundays and gazette holidays are to be considered as holidays.

PHILOSOPHY

Health is a fundamental human right. Maintenance of optimum level of health entails individual as well as social responsibility. However health can never be adequately protected by health services without active involvement of the community.

 
Indian Nursing Council (INC) believes that ANM/FHW plays a vital role in the rural health care delivery system. She should be sensitive and accountable to meet the health needs of the community. She should be able to provide accessible, equitable, affordable and quality health care. ANM/FHW can act as a catalyst for promoting inter-Sectoral convergence in promotive and preventive health care
 
ANM Curriculum intends to prepare skilled and effective female health workers to achieve the goals of National Rural Health Mission which aims at bringing about dramatic improvement in the health system and health status Of the country. ANM/FHW in community health skills to practice health care at a defined level of proficiency in accordance with local conditions and to meet local needs. Further, the programme fits into the general educational pattern as well as nursing education system.
 
Purpose
The purpose of the ANM/FHW course is to prepare an ANM to function at community level/village with specific skills to fulfill the health needs of the community. She will be an active link between the community and the health care system.
 
General objectives:
On completion of the course, the ANM/FHW will be able to:
  • Appreciate the concept of holistic health and understand the influence of socioeconomic and environmental factors on the health status of the community.
  • Identify health problems/ needs and resources in the community and mobilize social support for active participation of the community in health care activities.
  • Provide preventive, promotive, restorative and emergency health care to individuals and community as required.
  • Provide treatment of minor ailments.
  • Provide skilled midwifery services to all mothers in the community and refer neonates and mother at risk to hospitals.
  • Provide skilled care to all neonates in community and refer neonates at risk to the appropriate levels.
  • Render skilled child care services at home, clinic and school.
  • Guide/ Train birth attendants, Anganwadi workers (AWW)s, other community health activists and volunteers.
  • Provide need-based information and counseling related to health of individuals, family and groups.
  • Participate in all the National health and family welfare programmes at community level.
  • Act as team member in the health care delivery system.
  • Coordinate and collaborate with the other health team member and community based organizations, non-govt. organizations (NGO) and village administration.
  • Mange the health centre including equipments and supplies ,and maintain the records in the order to provide quality bases people friendly services.
  • Updates Knowledge and skills for professional and personal growth.

 Eligibility Criteria for Admission to Examination

On completion of practical experience, records to be signed by the tutor and countersigned by the principal.

  1. A candidate must have minimum of 80% attendance (irrespective of the kind of absence) in theory and practical in each subject for appearing for examination.
     
  2. A candidate must have 100% attendance in each of the practical areas before the award of completion certificate.
